Beer: 17th Anniversary Götterdämmerung IPA
Brewery: Stone Brewing Co.
State of Origin: California
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA
The beer provided a unique explosion of hoppy flavors. It did not have the familiar grapefruit scent, although it smelled sweet and fruity. The flavor was bold and balanced; it was not overwhelmingly sour or bitter, as can be the case with some IPA’s. The various hops within the beer were pleasantly noticeable, giving off hints of various flavors, including tropical citrus, pine, and floral.
The beer was of a beautiful golden/amber color, with a slight off-white head and lasting lacing. The mouthfeel was both crisp and smooth.
Fun fact: The Götterdämmerung is a particularly interesting beer because it introduces a new, experimental component of the always changing Stone IPA’s–German hops. The beer consists of 7 varieties of German hops–Magnum, Herkules, Merkur, Opal, Emerald (aka Smaragd), Strisselspalt, German Hersbrucker–and one American variety, Sterling.
